Last night I watched Sin City, A Dame to Kill For, and I was surprised the movie did not suck as the reviews would allude. The movie in fact was an instant classic for me. The movie’s commentary on modern city life is outstanding. The movie follows three stories, one of a man named Dwight, who is deeply depressed because he failed to procure the love of his life, the second of a stripper Nancy, who is heartbroken that she lost her hero/crush to suicide from fear for retribution from a corrupt Senator that is above the law. She is hellbent on killing him but cannot seem to muster the strength to do it. And lastly the story follows a bastard gambler named Johnny who has worked his whole life at the skill of gambling and parlor tricks in order to defeat his biological father, the senator, at poker (impliedly to secure his father’s recognition and approval he was deprived of his whole life).
During the story of Johnny, the gambler, at the poker table Senator Roark comments that his mother was a worthless trash whore, and Johnny, almost in tears states his mother was an angel. At the end he knows that he will be killed if he beats Senator Roark again at poker, and yet he does it, and smiles in bliss while Senator Roark pulls the trigger that puts a bullet through his head. His whole life has been incomplete, distorted, shameful, and fueled with hate, all because he had no father.
During the story of Nancy, we see her at one point cut her face with shards of glass in order to destroy her beauty. She felt that beauty has brought so much trouble to her life. First she was kidnapped and almost rapped by a depraved all powerful senator son, then she was in hiding because they wanted to kill her, the last witness. Then, she was visited by the Senator in the middle of the night to threaten her, stating that he would rape her and make her scream. Not to forget she is a stripper for a living, dancing for ugly smelly losers. These feelings of resentment for her own beauty culminated into her cutting her face, deeply in several spots. This act of cutting is not uncommon among beautiful women who view their bodies as slave master that dictates their lives, and the only way they can get power back is to destroy this god given gift. I would argue this is a symptom of modern society that values physical beauty as the most valuable asset. Women are alluring on their own, but with modern cosmetics and the beauty industry, women can make sane men insane. And this leads beautifully into the best story of all…
The story of Dwight. He is a loner, sad, depressed. He has banished all of his demons and lives a life of simplicity and hard work. We find out why, his heart was shattered and broken by a women whom he believed was his girlfriend, who then left him and betrayed him. We do not yet know exactly what happened in the past, and the movie never tells us, because it really doesn’t matter. We do know from Dwight’s demeanor towards Ava that she did something unforgivable. Ava calls Dwight, and he gestures to hang up, but he can’t quite do it, and continues to listen to her. He agrees to meet her, and she runs the I love you, I want you back, oh I understand if you don’t forgive me, I just want you to never forget me when I’m gone. Gone? Dwight wonders, is your life in trouble? She cannot bring herself to say goodbye, but her eye well up and she says her final goodbye. Dwight knows better, but he cannot help it. He needs to find out what’s wrong. He goes to her house, packed with security guards, and sees her skinny dipping in the pool. He ponders that she looks happy and safe. Bam, he gets caught. Suffice to say, this was all part of Ava’s plan, and she further tricks him in a big way later on (to kill her husband, then she shoots him 4 times).
Ava’s actions all throughout her story, are priceless and accurate. It is a real phenomenon in today’s world. The predator female that will use her beauty and skills in manipulation to garner male allies and minions. On some level all pretty women have minions. They are referred to as beta orbiters in some spheres. These beta orbiters are all in love with the prize, the prize would never go for them because she does not respect them. However, she will still “befriend these orbiters”, and give them tasks and orders to do. Using them for free services while they free up time to pursue men they are into. All I’m saying is that the character of Ava is not too far removed than most pretty women today.
This movie articulates the principles of redpill so beautifully. It shows how a woman’s actions can have such a detrimental affect on so many men. It shows how much evil can come when men do not have control over their environments. When fear overpowers courage. When the qualities that make men so special, are gone. When the laws of the jungle are permitted. When female chastity is no longer guarded.
My Moral of the Stories: When female chastity is no longer guarded, society will deteriorate into anarchy.
